Question
Hi Dr. Ambrose,
In your opinion, why did the National Federation of State High School Associations' mandate faceguards for girl's softball players? What is different about injuries, manner of play, set up of diamond, etc. that they are needed for softball but not baseball?

Answer
Hi Sandra,

I certainly can't speak for the Fed or even ASA but I believe it boils down to 2 words..."player safety".

being a MASA staff member for a number of years I can tell you that we very seldom consider or base anything we do on what that "other game" is doing
