home plate, after home run

Question
Hello Mark,
I have a situation that just happened in my slow pitch league governed by "ASA official rules". With 1 out, and a runner on first (runner A). The batter (runner B), hit a home run, over the fence. Runner A circled the basis as did the batter (B). After B came across the plate and back to the dugout, the defense gave the ball to the catcher, and the catcher touched home plate. The umpire called runner A out, stating he did not touch home plate. My question; is this the proper call? I appreciate your time. Thank you
Answer
Hi Joe,
When HRs must be run....this is a dead ball appeal of a missed base, R1 is out and B2 scores, that is correct,(with less than 2 outs)
IF there had been 2 outs R1 would be out and B2's score would not count as by rule w/ 2outs no run shall score if a preceding runner is declared out on an appeal play.
