Question
when a batter is slap hitting dont they have to kinda break or roll there wrists so you can tell if it is a bunt attempt or a slap attempt.  would this apply to national federation rules?   i thought we received a handout confirming this.   uic says you dont need to

Answer
Hi Michael,

The difference between a bunt and a slap,

A bunt attempt is any non-swinging movement of the bat intended to tap the ball into play. A bunt normally has the handle of the bat moving in about the same direction and speed as the barrel of the bat.

A slap is a batted ball that has been struck with a short, chopping motion rather than a full swing. A slap usually has the barrel of the bat moving significantly faster than the handle of the bat.

IMO you know it when you see it.

Hand position doesn't matter.
