Question
Hello Frank,

Had an incident last night and I'm just curious. about your thoughts.  We were playing slow-pitch and on defense.  The opposing batter hit a ball deep to right field, my guy backed-up to the fence and caught the ball in his glove, the ball then bounced out and went over the fence.

The Umpire called it a homerun, but I thought it was a ground-rule double.  I didn't complain because I honestly didn't know and had never seen anything like it before.

What are your thoughts.

Thanks,

Joe

Answer
Hi Joe,

If the ball deflected off the fielder's glove and went over the fence in fair territory, it is a "4 base award".  A 4BA does not count against home run limits in games that have them.

If the ball deflected off the fielder's glove and went over the fence in foul territory, it is a GRD.
