Question
Sorry for so many questions -
This is High School Fastpitch Softball
The following are several situations. How would these be scored?
Hitting ?br>
1)Runner on third ?batter grounds and is out at first and the runner on third scores ?is this an RBI? Is this a sacrifice?
2)Runner on third ?batter grounds and is on by error and the runner scores ?is this an RBI?
3)Batter hits to outfield (definite base hit), outfielder
errors on the grounder and batter advances to second ?is this a single and show an error on advancing?
4)Batter hits to outfield (definite base hit), the batter tries to stretch it to second or third and is thrown out ?how is this scored?
Fielding ?br>
1)Runner on third, batter bunts or hits, infielder holds the ball to stop the runner on third from advancing ?is this an error?
2)In calculating a fielding average, if ball hit to third and thrown to first ?who gets the assist and who gets the putout?
3)If a clean field is made and a throw is attempted on an advancing runner (not a wild throw) and the runner is safe ?is there an error / how is this scored?
4)In calculating a fielding average, if a base hit is made to the outfield and the outfielder fields the grounder and throws to second ?is this considered in the average or is it only when a play on the runner is made?
Base Running ?br>
1)If a passed ball or wild pitch occurs and a runner advances ?is this a stolen base?
2)Runner on second or third, batter hits to outfield (definite base hit single), outfielder makes a play for home as the runner advances ?if the batter advances to second ?is this a stolen base or a double?
3)If a batter makes it to first safely on a dropped 3rd strike, how do you score it. Does the pitcher get a strike out? Is the catcher charged with an error? How do you score the batter getting to 1st?"
Answer
Alrighty, here you go
Batting
1. Score an RBI, but no sacrifice. There are no sacrifice ground balls, just sacrifice bunts and fly balls.
2. Score an RBI only if the runner would have scored without the error.
3. Score a single with a put out for the defense.
Fielding
1. Nope
2. Assist 3rd, putout 1st
3. No error. If a clean play would have put the batter out at first, score it a fielder's choice, if not it is a hit.
4. Only count it when a play is made on a runner.
Base Running
1. No
2. Neither, it is a single
3. The pitcher is always credited with a strike out. Very rarely do you score an error on the catcher on the pitch. It is usually scored as a passed ball or wild pitch that allowed the batter to make it to first. The only time you score an error on the catcher in a dropped 3k situation is if they retrieve the ball with enough time that they should have thrown the runner out. iN this case if they fail to do so, score an error on the catcher.
