Substitution and re-entry

2016/7/15 17:12:12

Question
Can a bench player (non-starter) substitute for a starter, then be substituted for, then go back in the game?  For instance the starting pitcher was subbed out for another pitcher, then the subbed pitcher was subbed out and batted for, but then returned to the field the next inning.

Maybe put simpler  - can a pinch runner(used only to run for a player - never playing defense then go in for that player later in the game?

Answer
Hi Terri,

Just to make it easy, a starter and their sub can each re-enter once

1 starts, 2 subs for 1. 1 then comes back in for 2, 2 now re-turns and 1 is out of the game.  if 3 subs for 2, 2 is now out of the game.

You can play w/ the #s, but a player can be in the game twice and finally out of the game when they come out the 2nd time.

2nd Q, sure.
