Question
This is our first season in under 10 softball and the rules have changed quite a bit. I dont understand the substitutions. We have had 12 girls on our team for the past 3 years and have always batted all of them. Last week at a game we played a team that had the same number of girls and had them all on their line up, but said the last 3 girls were subs and never batted. (they only said this after I caught them batting out of order and didnt have the girls marked as subs). I read the rule book, but am still quite confused on how this works. Can you please help explain this easy enough for me to understand? Thank you so much! I appreciate any help!
Answer
Hi suzie,
There are many local leagues who modify the rules but in strict ASA you can only bat 9 in FP. You can play 10 using the DP/Flex rule where basically the DP bats and the Flex plays defense. (many other rules for that).
A starter and their sub can each re-enter once.... #1starts, #2 subs for 1, 1 now re-enters the game for 2 and finally 2 re-enters for 1, 1 is now out of the game. If #3 subs for 2, 2 is now out of the game.
A starter and their sub can only re-enter in the same batting position.
Let me know if you need anything else
