Question
Dr. Ambrose, Please define as a coach when exactly am I required to announce a player as a re-entry into the game. Am I required to declare that the player will re-enter at the point of substitution? At the point the original player re-enters the game but prior to the next pitch or when they come back into hit and prior to the first pitch?
I have always played that a player re-entering a game does not have to be declared until he actually re-enters and prior to the next pitch being made.
Thanks
Answer
Hi Eric,
Your question at least to me is a little confusing so let try it this way
Am I required to declare that the player will re-enter at the point of substitution? If by that you mean blue...#3 going to bat for #4 in the 6th position but #4 is going back on defense...no we don't take a sub and reentry like that. You must report #4 going back in for #3 when that time comes. If they go in on defense and there is a pitch they are an illegal sub if you don't report them prior to the pitch.
Or #3 been in for some time and you now want to bat #4, just report #4 in for #3 in the 6th position when you want them to bat.
Basically you just report your sub when you want them to go into the game
