Batter Runner (ASA Fast Pitch)

Question
Situation happened at my 12U Accelerated tournament over the weekend. Three-Umpire-System, where the 1BU saw the play. He was walking the line on the pitch. I also saw it from the stands.
R1 at 3B, one out. Ball four pitched to a right hand batter, could not be handled by the catcher. The ball popped out of her glove and rolled out in front of the left hand batters box. BR started running to 1B and kicked the ball about 10-15 feet towards 1B in foul territory. [In my opinion, unintentionally]
1B coach told the BR to advance to second. F2 got to the ball and fired to F4 covering 2B and the BR was tagged out. R1 advanced to home and scored due to a late throw from F4. No ruling on the field.
I discussed it with the crew afterward and had many different thoughts. PU 3yrs experience, 1BU 5yrs, 3BU 7yrs.
PU had no idea what to call, 1BU hoped no one saw it but after some thought maybe would have ruled "Interference". 3BU said it was F2 fault for not catching the ball and the runner did not intentionally kick the ball. Why penalize the runner for the ineptness of the catcher.
My ruling would have been Runner interference-out, R1 return to 3B.
FYI many UIC's agreed and some did not. It caused a great stir.
Let me know what your call would have been.
Answer
Hi Greg,
Since there was no play at the time of the contact, R1 on 3rd and b-r is awarded 1st, I would have nothing, right then. As soon as the b-r headed to 2nd or R1 headed to home. I would have dead ball interference b-r out, R1 back to 3rd.
