Question
With a runner on first the batter @ the plate hit a double. When rounding second the throw came in behind him. the runner was heading back to second, lead runner is on third. The throw was high and went out of play on the first base side. What is the correct ruling for the runner on second base. the argument was 1 base or 2 bases because the throw came from the outfield. Can you clarify

Answer
Hi Eric,

Sure, the award is always 2 bases from the last base touched AT THE TIME of the throw.

it doesn't matter who made or from what position the throw came from.  If B1 has touched 2nd at the time of the throw the award is home, if not 3rd, assuming he had touched 1st at the tott.
