Coed Force out rule

2016/7/15 17:06:57

Question
hello dr. ambrose,

I umpire/run a coed league modified pitch league.  My problem is with
applying the 2 out force out - run does not score rule.  Even with the
outfielders positioned properly they are very shallow on the women in the
league.  This leads to clean singles where the outfielder can make a force out
at 2nd that occurs well after the runner crosses the plate.  Morally it feels as
though we need to count these runs, but I can't find anything to support this.

Answer
Hi Mark,

You can't find anything because it's wrong, no offense.  ANYTIME the 3rd out of an 1/2 inning is a force out NO run can score, doesn't matter if they cross the plate before the out or not.  It's a basic rule of softball and to change it would alter the game much for the worse.
