Follow Up Question ASA ruling

Question
I had my 2nd baseman (female) injured on a side play at second. We submitted the batting line up with 12 coed players. Once our second baseman got injured we were forced to pull her out of the game and line up. We did not have a replacement player for her. We moved one of our females up on the line up so that 2 men would not bat back to back. Should we had left the line up the same and took an out or should have put one of the females that did not bat yet in her place. What is the ruling on this? I know that you can start with 12 and end with 10 with no penalty due to injury. Is the game now a forfeit because we change the batting order?
Would the game be a forfeit?
Final question, now that the game is completed what can be done. During the game both us and the official asked the other team if they wanted the out each time the player was due to bat. The other team decline and wanted to finish the game under protest. What can be done now if anything? They are protesting that we changed our batting lineup and that we can not start the game with 12 and end with 10.
Answer
Hi Eric,
Well someone took a very simple problem and made it much more complex. The umpire should not have allowed you to move a female in the batting order and also let a male in the bo not bat. If I have that correct. Again, you simply take an out in that 1 batting spot.
Now I can see a protest, and if upheld it is not a forfeit but rather you start the game over at the spot where the game was when protested.
