ASA Co-ed play

2016/7/15 17:05:45

Question
When a first basemen is on the bag waiting for the throw from a batted ball to first, can he be in the runners path? we play with a single bag, and we are currently playing a team in the playoffs, and the first basemen is in the runners ways, every play, and its either make contact with him or run to the side. part of the reason is the bad throws coming his way, but his stance is on where he isn't stretching across the path from first to second but more like first to home..

Answer
In all of softball the fielder has to give way to the runner if they don't have the ball, but the runner must avoid contact if possible.

If the runner is avoiding the fielder who does not have the ball, the correct call is obstruction on the fielder.
