Question
A batter hits a ball in the infield, on the play to first base they touch the white portion of the base and overrun the base.  They are ruled safe, but after over running the base the batter/runner turns left, can he or she be tagged out?

Does touching the white or orange portions of 1st base have anything to do with the intent to proceed to the 2nd base?

Answer
Hi Craig,

The runner would be called "safe" when touching only the white portion on this play HOWEVER if appealed by the defense before the runner returned they would be called out.

Turning left after over running 1st is fine so long as no attempt real or feigned is made.

Does touching the white or orange portions of 1st base have anything to do with the intent to proceed to the 2nd base? No
