Does run score before 3rd out made count?

Question
Good Evening,
Tonight we had a play that caused a lot of confusion. It is a co-ed softball league, but I don't think that the answer will vary from that of fast-pitch.
Runner R1 is on 3rd and R2 is on 2nd.
The batter hits the ball towards the SS.
Instead of throwing the ball to 1B for the force out, the SS turns and throws to Third Basemen. R1 crossed the plate before the tag was applied to R2 at 3rd.
Would this run count? Would the Batter who was running to 1b have to cross the bag before R2 was tagged out at 3rd?
Thank you for your assistance!
Answer
The only way to prevent the run from scoring from 3rd is by making the force out for the third out. In your situation, the only place this could be done would be at first. What you have because the defense went for the tag at third instead of the force at first is a timing play. Yes the run scores if R1 crossed the plate prior to R2 being tagged out. And no, the batter would not have to cross first prior to the out for the run to score.
