illegal - non approved bat

QUESTION: Illegal bat is one to long or too heavy, yes?

Altered (painted.shaved, etc.) and non-approved bats(bat on non approved ASA list) penalty batter is subject to out and out of games, yes? Is he also out of tournament and rest of league play?

Illegal bat only an out? Were in rule book is this?

Is an altered and or non-approved bat also "considered" an illegal bat?

I'd say it is also illegal. Your answer appreciated. Thanks

ANSWER: Hi Jan,

An illegal bat, an altered bat and a non-approved bat are 3 different animals.

An illegal bat is only an out ASA 7-6-c

An altered or non-approved bat is an out and ejection for the tournament ASA 7-6-b, leagues are free to use any penalty they wish.

QUESTION: Ok now the real question...So a team appeals that a batter used an illegal bat saying it is on ASA non-approved list. Therefore bat is non approved bat, not an illegal bat. So their appeal is incorrect..yes?
Team appeals to ump that bat is illegal? Home ump holds and looks at bat and says, "bat is not illegal".  Now they appeal it is not approved? Can they appeal again on same issue/back to back? Thanks

Doesn't matter the terminology, The discovery and penalties of the the use of an illegal, altered or non approved bat is not required to be appealed by the defense.

If in ANY way the umpire discovers any of the 3 during a time at bat the penalties applies.  I don't care if someone says "Blue, that's a bad bat" we have no rules that talk about a bad bat but.... I'm going to take a look at what it is.

The umpire should but if he doesn't notice and the defense now says bat is non-approved, no problem, let's check the list and if so, penalty is enforced.
