offensive team mates stopping a thrown ball

Question
hello, don't know if i got this to you.

I had a situation with runner on 1st... ball hit to outfield, runner tags up, but ball is dropped.  He advances to 2b, but throw is wild to 3b...so both runners move up.   The  on deck batter stops thrown ball with bat...after it has gotten past the third baseman... do runners go back a base in this situation?
Since offensive team stopped ball... The play had pretty much stopped.   Where should runners end up?

Thanks.

Greg

do runner

Answer
Hi Greg,

this would be a "blocked ball" so we would have a dead ball and runners return to the last base touched at the time of the blocked ball unless the action prevented the defense from making an out.  The runner being played on would be out.
