Hit and Run/ bunt and run

2016/7/15 17:02:41

Question
On the hit and run or bunt and run, should the batter be trying to make contact no matter what or should they make sure it is a good
pitch

Answer
Tom,

This is a coaching question.  I normally just do rules and scoring.

But, yes the batter needs to make contact.  Otherwise you leave the runner hanging out to dry for the easy pick off.  If the runner is fast enough to make it with out the sacrifice, you should have them straight up steal second then sacrifice to third.

A coach has got to love a runner on third with one out.  Lot's of pressure on the defense.
