Question
Mark, Batter swings hit ball one foot on ground inside batter box second foot in air outside batter box what is the ruling. tx
Answer
Hi Chris,
As long as the foot is in the air it doesn't matter where the foot is in relationship to the lines of the box. A foot must be on the ground completely outside the line when contact with the ball is made in order for the batter to be out.
Any part of the foot touching any part of the line is considered in the box.
here's out rules supplement for your question.....BATTING OUT OF THE BATTER扴 BOX.
To call a batter out for batting out of the batter抯 box, one foot or both feet
must be on the ground completely outside the lines of the batter抯 box when
contact is made with the ball. The lines of the batter抯 box are considered
inside the batter抯 box.
A batter should be called out immediately for hitting a pitched ball while
out of the batter抯 box, or for re-entering the batter抯 box and making contact
with the ball. The ball is dead, and the batter is out whether the ball is fair or
foul. When there are no batter抯 box lines, good judgment should be used
and the benefit of doubt should go to the batter. If contact is not made with
the ball, there is no penalty.
