Umpire mechanics for runner not touching home plate

2016/7/15 17:01:35

Question
Runner 1 crosses home plates and the plate umpire signals safe.  At the conclusion of the play, the defense appeals Runner 1 touching home plate.  Plate umpire signals that Runner 1 is out for failing to touch home plate.  Are the mechanics accurate for NFSA fastpitch softball mechanics?

Answer
Hi David,

A runner is assumed safe until put out, so on a play at the plate if the runner misses the plate and no immediate play is made to put them out, yes the umpire hesitates slightly and signal safe.  If a proper appeal is now made the umpire calls the out.

So yes sounds like proper mechanics to me.
