Question
I am recording stats for ASA fastpitch softball 12u division. If a pitcher starts the game and pitches for two innings and and a relief pitcher comes in and pitches for two innings for a combined total inning of 4 and the game is a shut out.(16-0) which person do I record the win to? the starting pitcher or the relief? If the answer is the starting pitcher, then do teh starting pitcher get the credit for the win or loss no matter how many innings they pitch as long as they start?
Answer
In this situation, the win would go to the starter.
The win would go to the second pitcher if the starter only pitched one inning. If the starter left the game with the lead and the team lost the lead, the 2nd pitcher gets the loss.
Typically you have to pitch four innings to get credited with the win. In your situation, both pitchers pitched equal innings, the win goes to the starter.
