Scorekeeping

Question
Hello,
I often keep score for a fast pitch travel team. can you tell me how to code a out for a runner leaving a base early? and how you code a dropped third strike where the batter makes it safely to first base. Thanks.

Answer
Kathleen,

The leaving early isn't covered in scoring guides that I could ever find.  I just mark the out in the book with a note Left Early.

In the second situation, the pitcher gets a strike out and either a passed ball (most likely) or a wild pitch is recorded on the catcher.  The only exception to this is if the runner could be put out by the catcher getting to the ball and making the play.  Then score an error on the catcher.  This scoring is very rare at higher levels of play.
