Correct scoring of a dropped third strike

2016/7/15 17:00:51

Question
When a cathcher drops the third strike, how is it scored?? Is it a error on the catcher even if she throws them out at first base or tags them at the plate?? And does the pitcher still get credit for a strike out because the ball is still live and in play??

Answer
Juli,

If the batter makes it to first dropped third strike is scored as a passed ball or wild pitch.  If the catcher is able to make the play at first and fails to do so, you could have an error as well.

If the batter is put out then you just record the strike out.

The pitcher gets credit for the strike out regardless.
