Girs Modified Softball in NYS

Question
My 12yo daughter was asked to play JV softball instead of modified.  The coaching at this level is far different and we think she is not mature enough to play at this level.  The athletic director says its a NYS law that she can not return to modify.  Is this true?

Answer
Walt,

I guarantee you that New York does not have law regulating what level of softball a twelve year old girl can play.

It is possible the rule is the same as Michigan and it is regulated by the state high school athletic association.  In Michigan if a girl competes in a game with a none school same sport team during the current high school season for that sport, she loses her eligibility for the remainder of the current school season in that sport.

Ask your AD to get a clarification of the rule from New York's high school athletic association.
