suspending game for darkness

2016/7/15 17:00:25

Question
Dr. Mark,

Here's the situation:  ASA slow pitch softball; darkness descending; after 5 complete innings, 23-25 to the home team.  Play continues into the 6th; after the top of the 6th, the visiting team goes ahead 30-25, and play is then suspended for darkness.

As 5 complete innings have been played, is the game declared done and the home team wins (they were ahead after the last complete inning, the 5th); OR, is the game suspended to be played at a future date, because half an inning was played?

Thanks

Answer
HI John,

your league can have different rules such as resuming the game, etc but in strict ASA in this case we would go back to the end of the 5th and the team in the lead (the home team)would win this game.  That's a tough call when the other team is 5 ahead thru 5 1/2 but that's the rule.
