Missed base appeal

2016/7/15 16:59:29

Question
Bases Loaded.  Girl hits over fence.  Runner on 2nd never touches home and the runner on first then does.  Umpire calls the runner on 2nd out which is the 3rd out so three runs do not score.  Can the umpire make that call without an appeal?  Is there a rule in the book to look this up?

Answer
Hi Lisa,

A missed base is an appeal by the defense.  The umpire should never make the call w/out an appeal.

Now w/ an appeal all runners in front of the runner called out would score.  None behind them would score if that was the 3rd out.

In ASA the rule is outlined in RS1 appeals.  Fed has the same appeal rules.
