Question
I am pretty sure there is a rule regarding playing in an ASA tournment during High School playoffs. I have a player on our HS team who will be playing ASA u16 this summer. Our HS team is sitting #1 for playoffs and she is scheduled to play a tournment during this time. What can happen if she plays? Can she quit HS, even though her name will be on the roster? Why would the travel coaches allow this? Can it effect her in the future? thank you, Tami
Answer
Tami,
This rule differs from state to state. Neither ASA or High School rules cover this. Your state athletic association set these rules.
In Michigan.
If a student competes in a game or scrimmage with a non school team during the school season that player is no longer eligible for the rest of the high school season.
Anybody can quit anytime they want.
Most travel coaches won't allow it. Some will. Usually the student athlete knows what the travel coach expects when they join the team.
In the future it probably will not affect her. If the player is that good and a college is interested, they will be interested in any case.
