Tardy Batters Name Already Inserted Into Lineup

Question
Slow Pitch Softball: A manager puts "Bob" in the tenth (last) spot of the lineup and says that "Bob" is running late. "Bob" doesn't show up for the first time through the lineup so he is an automatic out. "Bob" shows up a little later. Can he then be inserted into the lineup where his name is? Is there an automatic out every time the tenth spot comes around? Can "Bob" only be a sub for someone else or can he sub since his name was already on the original lineup?
Answer
Hi Keith,
sorry for the short delay, holiday weekend
I would not allow anyone to be put in the lineup if they were not there at the start of the game, you play shorthanded and take an out in the 10th spot anytime it comes up and is vacant.
By rule playing shorthanded if a roster member shows up they must immediately be inserted in the lineup, doesn't matter if it's Bob or someone else.
Bob can't sub if he shows up w/ now only 10 because he must be put in the 10th spot.
