Runner leaving early

2016/7/15 16:57:43

Question
--Ok, so if there are runners on 1st and 3rd, and the runner on first attempting to steal leaves early. The catcher throws to second, the girl is out for leaving early, but does the runner on 3rd have to go back then if she stole while the catcher threw down to second. Runner on 3rd go back because runner on first left early??

--If there's a runner on 2nd, ball hit to shortstop, runner runs into shortstop so she's out for interference but is the batter-runner safe? or is she out since there was interference?

Answer
Hi Heather,

a runner leaving early is a dead ball, out, no pitch, so runners have to return to their base.

With interference the ball is dead, the runner is out and the b-r is awarded 1st base unless it was an obvious attempt to prevent a dp.
