Interference during a throw down

2016/7/15 16:57:34

Question
If a batter loses balance while trying to avoid being hit by a pitch (leans backward and one foot lands out of batter box) and then ends up in the way of the catcher while a throw down occurs on a steal to 2nd base, should that batter be called out due to interference?

Answer
No I wouldn't call the batter out on this.

I would not penalize the batter for avoiding a bad pitch.  Conversely, no award for the defense because the cause of the interference was the defenses fault!

Sounds like the batter was where she was supposed to be based on the pitch.
