Answer
Hi April,
Thank you for your questions. WOW! My congratulations to your daughter for her unassisted triple play. If I were her parent, I, too, would be looking for a source to record the moment. I would start with the local league newsletter, if you have one, and local newspapers. Hurry up and contact such sources, as they're only interested in the latest news. Then, ask the league's president to contact the national office of whatever organization your daughter plays for. ASA, for example, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, can be contacted via www.asasoftball.com. They have a newsletter and perhaps your daughter's play would interest them.
Unfortunately, try as I might, I just wasn't able to dredge up any youth softball unassisted triple play statistics. Plain and simple, they do not exist. However, I did research Major League Baseball's unassisted triple play statistics, as a point of comparison, and was surprised myself to find that only 15 have occurred in the entire history of the game, so it shows you just how very rare they are. Grand slams are rare, too, right? Well, not compared with the unassisted triple play! In the year 2000 alone, 176 grand slams were hit in Major League Baseball. So, your daughter deserves a bask in the spotlight. Her unassisted triple play truly was special! See below the excerpt I included from the Baseball Almanac:
Unassisted Triple Plays
The unassisted triple play is one of the rarest fabulous feats in Major League baseball. It has been accomplished only fifteen times in history and as illustrated in the quote below, it is a legacy that will follow each and every player who has ever accomplished this unbelievable feat.
"Funny thing, I played in the big leagues for thirteen years and the only thing anybody seems to remember is that once I made an unassisted triple play in a World Series." - Bill Wambsganss
