CO ED Rule On Wrong Ball Pitched

2016/7/15 16:53:49

Question
If you are using the 11" ball for women & 12" ball for the men in a co ed league, and the pitcher pitches the 11" ball to the guy what is the call.  As a umpire I would call a dead ball and get the right ball in play.  One of the umpires told the team it was the pitchers or 3rd base coach who hold the balls between the female and male batter fault

Answer
Hi Randy,

if a pitch was thrown, the manager of the OFFENSIVE team has the option of taking the result of the play or having the batter resume where they were on the count prior to the wrong ball being used.

In "strict" ASA play it is the umpire who wears 2 ball bags and controls the playing of the balls.  Anyone else doing that is a local situation and I have no idea of your local rules re that.
