Equipment to Protect Forearm from Cleating

2016/7/15 16:53:28

Question
Can you recommend or suggest equipment to help protect SS and 2nd baseman forearms from getting cleated when tagging runner out at 2nd base?

Answer
Dennis,

I did a quick google check, looked over some softball and baseball sites and couldn't find anything to cover the forearm.  Try looking at some football equipment sites, they may something you can use.  You could also try the forearm sleeve that you see some basketball players using now.  I am sure you could make some padding to go under it.

I can see the risk you are talking about.  In all my coaching I have never had a fielder injured tagging out a runner stealing 2nd base but I understand your concern especially with the increased use of steel cleats.  Make sure your fielders are getting the glove down on the edge of the base and make sure they are not blocking the base.

I hope this helps.

Tom
