NFHS softball: timing play involving missed 1st base

Question
Here's a question regarding a timing play: Runner on 3rd, 2 outs. Ground ball hit, Runner scores as B-R beats the throw to first. HOWEVER, B-R missed 1st base, and the defense properly appeals. Does the run count (scored before appeal), or does THIS appeal negate the run (Batter does not achieve 1st base)?
Answer
Hi Matt,
Thank you for your question! Here's a quote from page 31 from the 2010-2011 NFHS Softball Umpires Manual:
"The umpire should know a run does NOT count if the third out of the inning is a result of an appeal at a base to which a runner was forced to advance."
There are four other instances in which no runs count when the third out is made. The one you were thinking of and referred to is: the batter/runner is put out PRIOR to reaching 1B.
