Question
So if defense appeals that we have an unreported sub we have (him) called out? When does the appeal need to be made? What if appeal made after no pitches to urs? what if one pitch made? He/she is out if they complete their turn at bat and before pitch to new batter. thanks
Answer
Hi Jan,
the way you ask the question implies to me that you play ASA and I will give you the answer for that. Remember some other orgs have different rules.
1) If the team that has a US reports them before the other team, no penalty, player in the game
2) If AT bat, after a pitch, no penalty, in the game.....if no pitch had yet been made they are not yet an US and are just entered into the game
3) When they bat and complete their turn at bat and before another pitch, (or defense or umpires leave the field of play)
a) all runners return to their bases occupied before the batted ball
b) the US is called out but now legally in the game
c) any other outs that occurred during this play stand.
4) When they complete their turn at bat and after a pitch to another batter
a) no penalty, all play stands and they are in the game.
