Foul ball call by base umpire

Question
Hello! We had a situation in a game this last weekend. R1 on 3rd, R2 on 1st. Batter hit foul tip directly back to catcher. Plate ump appropriately gives strike signal, but base ump verbalizes "foul ball". R2 was heading to 2nd, stops at call. Catcher throws to F4 and tags out R2. I understand that the ball would still be live on a foul tip ~ my question is if there is some rule that covers this type of differing calls situation by the PU and BU? The "out" call stood in our game. Thank you for your help.
Answer
Hi Cheryl,
Yes there is a rule (Chap 10) that gives the PU the power to rectify any situation in which the reversal of an umpire's decision places a b-r, a runner or the defense in jeopardy or to make decisions on any situation not specifically covered by the rules.
Since a "foul ball" is a dead ball did the BU put the runner is jeopardy? IMO probably yes as a foul ball from the PU is a definite mechanic and w/out such a signal the BU should have kept their mouth shut. If it happened exactly as your q states I would put R1 back on 1st.
