hit by pitcher

2016/7/15 16:50:50

Question
Late in a JV game a player is hit for the 2nd time. Only because her coach made a humorous remark prompts the question. Is there a maximum number of players that can be hit by pitcher before she has to be removed from that position, but remain in the game ?

Answer
Eric,

This question comes up frequently, especially at the lower levels.  Let me it answer it this way.  There is no limit to the number of base runners a team can gain by being hit by pitches!

I teach younger players speed first then control.  This sometimes creates a bruising problem on the opposing team.  When a coach is in this situation they need to make the changes necessary so nobody gets hurt.  But there is no rule that requires the removal of a pitcher after a certain number of opposing batters get hit.
