Defensive Subs

2016/7/15 16:49:19

Question
I have 12 players.  I am batting 9 batters.  I was thinking of having 4 of the batters share the 8th position - my league makes me bat them once in All Star games.  I also have to play each girl in the field once.  I would like to play the 4 in various positions - RF or maybe LF - throughout the game.  I know they report in as substitutes when batting.  But are they required to report in on defense? And more importantly is one players defensive superstition tethered to their offense substitution?  Thanks!

Answer
Jim,

The line up is mostly for offense.  You can move the defensive position of the players in the game at will with no ill effects on a players re-entry rights.  You should let the umpire know that you are making changes defensively.  So, no the defensive position is not tied t the offensive substitution.
