Player removal (Bat Throwing)

Question
B1 hits long fly ball for an out on his first at bat and on his follow through he releases the bat and it lands agaisnt the back stop fence(Approx 15 ft away).  Umpire warns individual for throwing bat(Umpires opinion).  Same batter on second at bat hits ball to out field and ends up with a triple, during his follow through he does the same thing again with the bat.  Umpire after letting the batting get to third tells our coach that we have to replace him for throwing the bat.  Is the umpire right in replacing our player?  I immediately gave a verbal protest to the call, not aware of any rule about this.

Answer
Hi Will,

There are not any rules for calling a batter out for throwing their bat and your umpire didn't do that.  He ejected your player for USC and that's up to his decision, obviously they felt it was a safety issue.

My belief is that a player has a responsibility not to put other players or umpires at unnecessary risk,  my left kneecap was broken a # of years ago by a thrown bat after I had warned the batter.  What if the bat hit the catcher, umpire or ODB, that could cause serious injury.

In all frankness IMO your player needs to learn how to hold on to the bat if they want to play softball.

*** in re-reading my published answer I noticed the OP stated the umpire "replaced" the b-r.  In doing so it was probably a "disqualification" rather than an "ejection" for USC which penalizes the team much less and IMO for safety reasons can be defended.
