Second baseman playing position on field

Question
we have an 18U fastpitch team and we have always coached our second baseman to play behind the baserunner line about a 1/3 of the way from 2nd base. Our current 2nd baseman is out with injury and we have an assistant coach trying to train the right fielder in this position but placing her in front of the runners line even with the 1st baseman. We have seen where this causes problems with the player getting to 2nd base having to look over her shoulder to see where the runner is and almost cutting of the runner and not seeing the ball coming from third at her and with a pop-up to the left yet behind the 1st baseman again with a runner heading to second when she could not get to the ball without slowing down for the baserunner or taking the runner down. I am needing some "expert" documentation to help show and re-train this assistan coach and right fielder.
Answer
Laura,
I play F4 as deep as possible. They have to be able to get to first on a bunt and play slow rollers, but the further back they play the more time they will have to get to hard hit balls.
As far as a collision with the runnner, it is the runners responsibility to stay out of F4's way if she is attempting an initial play on the ball.
