Question
QUESTION: Had a play tonite in which bases are loaded with 2 outs. Batter hits a ground ball to the shortstop who fields the ball, and as she goes to throw the runner from second is right in front of her causing her to double pump and throw high. I immediately called dead ball interference and called the runner out for hindering the fielder from completing the play.
What is your opinion?
ANSWER: Hi scott,
I'm sorry, this 1 I would have to see the entire scenario. As you know it's a judgment call.

QUESTION: I understand. But according to rule, it is interference by runner if they do anything that hinders the fielder from completing the play.
Answer
Hi Scott,
Well...they have to do an "act", not just "anything". Simply trying to advance is in and of itself not an act.
In this case a high throw has nothing to do w/ it. It was either interference immediately and a dead ball or it wasn't.
You saw it and judged the fielder was hindered, that's fine with me, but not because of a high throw.
