Bat hits fair ball - Ball hits fair ball

2016/7/15 16:46:20

Question
Is there a difference in ruling on a bat that is dropped or rolls into a fair batted ball versus a ball that hits at bat that has been dropped and then remains FAIR or then rolls foul?

Answer
Hi Pete,

If "the bat" dropped or thrown hits a batted ball in fair territory we have a dead ball and the batter is out.  If the bat hits a ball in foul territory it is a foul ball.

If "the ball" hits a bat on the ground in fair territory the ball remains alive and is fair or foul based on on our fair/foul rules.  If the ball then settles or is touched in fair territory it is a fair ball.  If the ball settles or is touched in foul territory it is a foul ball.

if the ball hits a bat in foul territory, it is a foul ball.
