Question
We are looking to start a Co-Ed Adult slow pitch softball league. What size ball would you suggest using?

Answer
Hi Joanna,

Co-ed adult slow pitch softball, in ASA at least, is played with two ball sizes.  The women hit the 11" ball and the men hit the 12" ball.  Optic yellow balls have completely replaced white balls.

Now, that said, you specifically asked me what size ball, singular, would I suggest using.  Does that mean you only want to use one size ball?  Since you're a brand-new, start-up league, you can do that!  If you do just want to use one size ball, then by all means play with the 12" ball.  For one thing, it will be a lot easier for you to purchase, store, and inventory just one size ball.  Also, during the games your umpires won't have to constantly keep track of and switch out balls.

Your women won't have any trouble throwing, catching, or hitting the 12" ball, if you have concerns about that.  In fast pitch, starting at 12U and going all the way through college and beyond, females play with ease with the 12" ball.
