Running bases in reverse order

Question
This happened in a men's slow-pitch game. Batter hits a bases-empty double and tries to stretch it into a triple. Fielders trap him in a run down. When one of them bobbles the ball briefly, he races back to second, does not slide, touches the bag and runs two steps past it. Turning back toward the bag, he realizes the fielder is right behind him, ready to apply tag. So the runner sprints toward first, trailed by the fielder carrying the ball, who cannot catch up. Runner reaches first without being tagged. What is the call?

Answer
Hi Donna,

There is no call, the runner did not violate any rule.  Simply because they have touched or passed a base does not mean they cannot retreat to previous bags especially when a play is being made on them.  In this case the runner is simply safe at 1st after a major defensive cluster- doggle.
