Batter/Runner hit by ball

QUESTION: Batter hits/bunts ball that is fielded by the catcher. Batter/runner is running in fair territory to first base. Catcher throws the ball and strikes batter/runner while in fair territory. Is the batter out and what rules apply?

QUESTION: So by inference then, if b-r is half way to 3/4 of the way to first in fair territory and they were hit by a thrown ball then they would be called out?

hi robert,

maybe.....if they were outside the lane the runner would be out if they interfered with f3 taking the throw at 1st.  Just being hit by the throw is not enough, so the umpire has to determine if they interfered w/ f3 being able to take the throw.
