If the b-r had not yet entered the 3' lane area, it is nothing, just a bad throw and we play on

QUESTION: So by inference then, if b-r is half way to 3/4 of the way to first in fair territory and they were hit by a thrown ball then they would be called out?
Answer
hi robert,
maybe.....if they were outside the lane the runner would be out if they interfered with f3 taking the throw at 1st. Just being hit by the throw is not enough, so the umpire has to determine if they interfered w/ f3 being able to take the throw.
