Question
I had this issue but can find it in the rule book.
Team A had 11 batters and all had batted a couple of times around. In the 5th inning one of team A抯
batters leaves the game and line up due to injury. In the bottom of that inning that spot comes up
in the lineup. Is that spot in the lineup and out?
Answer
Hi pete,
In a case like this you play "shorthanded" and that batting position is out whenever it comes up
Shorthanded cannot not be played however if it were due to ejection,if you had no sub the game is a forfeit.
ASA 4-2-a. If a team begins play with the required number of players as listed,
that team may continue a game with one less player than is currently
in the batting order whenever a player leaves the game for
any reason other than ejection. Under no circumstances shall a
team be permitted to bat less than nine (slow pitch) or eight (fast
pitch).
d. If the player leaving the game is a runner or batter, the runner or
batter shall be declared out.
e. When the player who has left the game is scheduled to bat, an
out shall be declared for each turn at bat. An inning or the game
can end with an automatic out.
f. The player who has left the game cannot return to the line-up. (except if they left under the blood rule)
