Answer
Thanks for the easy scenario...............
Batter 1 lead off double
Batter 2 Bunts E4 Batter 1 Scores Batter 2 advances to 2nd on E4
This run is earned. Because the batter should have scored on the past ball. For figuring earned runs batter 1 is still on third. What happens after B1 scores helps to determine if this run is earned. There should be one out
-Batter 2 advances to 3rd on PB
-Batter 3 Base Hit Scores Batter 2
This run is not earned and can not be earned because this runner got base due to an error
-Batter 3 Advances to 2nd PB
To follow this batter for earned runs, they are still on first.
-Batter 4 Base Hit Scores Batter 3
This run is earned. While the batter should have ended up on third but due to the passed ball that advanced them to second they scored. The reason this run is earned is they would have scored on batter fours hit.
-Batter 4 is at 1st Base
-Batter 5 Base Hit, Ball Goes Through Centerfielder to the Fence
-Batter 4 Scores
You don't indicate an error here so batter 4 is earned.
Still should be just one out even though there are no outs.
-Batter 5 is Caught in a Run Down between home and 3rd
-Throwing Error E2 Batter 5 Scores
Batter 5 should have been put out, not an earned run.
5 runs Score
How many are earned?
I have 3 earned and 2 unearned. The big variable here are the passed balls. Were they really passed balls or wild pitches. Many wild pitches are mistakenly scored as passed balls. For instance, any pitch that hits the ground prior to reaching the catcher and the catcher can not control the pitch and a runner advances is a wild pitch.
