Question
Hello,
I beleive we were on the wrong end of a bad call that cost us the game, but then again maybe I dont know the the rules.
Situation, Bases Loaded 1 out bottom of the last inning we are dwon two runs, the batter at the plate hits a hard ground ball that hits the runner advancing to second, the gorund ball was in the hole, no fielder would of had a chance to field it, it was an obvious base hit. So the ball bounces off the runner the blue calls her out, the ball then bounced directly ot the second basemean who throws to first, Double Play game over we lose by 1 run. I have two questions, is it a automatic dead ball once the ball hits the runner in the field, or because no fielder had a chance to field the ball the runner is not out and we play on live.
Thanks for your Answer.
Answer
Hi Dee,
assuming the ball had not passed an infielder (exc F1) the runner is out, dead ball, b-r awarded 1st and runners return to the last base touched at the time of the interference. It doesn't matter if you think it would have been a base hit.
In your case the ball should not have continued to be live and another play made. What you probably should have had at the end of the play is bases loaded with 2outs, the run would not have scored unless they touched home before the runner was hit which sounds very doubtful from your description.
