League By-Laws

Question
I play in an ASA co-ed slow pitch softball league.  I was playing catcher last night and as I was watching some of the batters line up in the batters box they would have one foot completely outside the box at the start of the pitch.  I told the ump that the pitch shouldn't be thrown until the batter's feet are completely in the box.  He differed to a league offical that was there and the offical said that they had ammended that rule in the league by-laws  (the teams never got a copy of these by-laws), I also found out that night that another by-law is that the pitch height can be 3' to 12' instead of 6' to 12'.  Can these types of ASA rules be ammended by league by-laws and if they could, wouldn't the league have to inform the teams of the rule changes in written form.  Thanks

Answer
Hi Ruth,

yes a league can alter whatever rules they want for their league play.

"wouldn't the league have to inform the teams of the rule changes in written form"  you would think so but that's a problem I've seen time and again, no communication,  Jump on your LD, if the rules are different print them out for everybody.
