Question
clarification Batted ball "BOUNDS" over 1st or 3rd base, it doesn't matter where ball lands after if passes over the base...(fair/foul territory.)..it is a fair ball--
What does this term "BOUNDS" mean? does it mean the same as "BOUNCES?" as in an infield ground ball?
if a Batted ball is hit in the air, over 1st or 3rd base, and first lands in foul territory... my question is--- is this a fair ball?
Answer
Hi debbie
yes it does
bound 1 (bound)
intr.v. bound積d, bound穒ng, bounds
1. To leap forward or upward; spring.
2. To progress by forward leaps or springs.
3. To bounce; rebound.
n.
1. A leap; a jump.
2. A rebound; a bounce
So a batted ball that hits the ground in the infield and "bounces" or "bounds" over ANY part of the base is a fair ball even if it lands in foul territory after it goes over the base.
" if a Batted ball is hit in the air, over 1st or 3rd base, and first lands in foul territory... my question is--- is this a fair ball?" No, it's a foul ball if 1st touched the ground in foul territory after passing a base in the air.
